UNIVERSITY NETWORK
Charlevoix has a satellite university on its territory
Enjoying a good measure of independence, each university defines its own study program and sets up its own teaching and research programs. The university also defines the criteria for admission and enrolment of students, gives out its own diplomas and hires all its own staff. Several teaching institutions offer specialised training programs, in tourism and nursing.
Université du Québec at Chicoutimi
A French-language university, member of the Québec University network, the UQAC has acquired a solid reputation in new fields of study, particularly in environmental sciences, tourism management and communications. Founded in 1969, the University has seven faculties and offers 300 programs and has one of the most important arts program in the country. It offers its students innovative programs in computer science, mathematics and biological sciences. Its Ecole des sciences de la gestion (ESG), the most important in North America, offers an MBA program in 18 countries on 4 continents. In November 2001, the ESG received the prestigious EQUIS certification (European Quality Improvement System) awarded by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) based in Brussels.
