Every time a child is born in Charlevoix, this child becomes a source of wealth, an inspiration and a new hope for our community. The family is enriched and takes part in a social contract to attain harmony and sustainable prosperity. Charlevoix International and its partners see as a definite possibility that our population will double on a territory organised for family life in 2049. Why should we not think this possible when we are talking about wealth and sufficient space to attain this goal?
Basically a new birth allows us to believe that a new and independent life is beginning and the parallel holds true for new arrivals; this renewal represents a project that is both structured and feasible. Our population has been stagnating at 30,000 souls over the last few years and we have to recognize that the lure of the big city is ever present. Our society greatly profits from new government programs inciting couples to have more children but it is a fundamental fact that more must be done. Parental leave is a start. The Charlevoix region enjoys unlimited assets that would give newborns and their families a healthy place and a world where they will be able to contribute and in turn, when they come of age, have children of their own. Our community must value new births and make sure that work is ideally organised to raise children by setting up mechanisms adaptable to all sorts of situations and target an intelligent way of dealing with the demands of work and family life. The day care network is a very popular subject these days but we must come up with other types of solutions that emphasize the need to avoid the rat race to earn more, to spend more, alienating our vital responsibility to nurture our values and exchange our knowledge with others.
