Charlevoix is extremely well-known by arts and crafts artists from everywhere. Its dramatic landscapes punctuated by sculpted mountain tops and its meandering roads along the St. Lawrence river are more than enough to inspire anyone looking for a spark, an illumination for creating works of art. Arts and crafts shops abound where tourists and local citizens can purchase objets d’art inspired by several art movements.
In the footsteps of Félix-Antoine Savard, Jean-Marie Gauvreau, Deblois, Brisson and so many others who were truly convinced that arts and crafts artists in Charlevoix were worthy of attention, today’s artists are united in eight artistic groups working with textiles, wood, ceramics, metal, glass, leather and pelts, paper and other materials.
The Corporation des Métiers d’art de Charlevoix wished to organise and stimulate the development of this potential aspect of the new economy. It then became essential to set up a permanent structure facilitating the start-up of business, establish marketing strategies adapted to the needs of the environment and implementing a training plan of action.
Charlevoix International in total respect with the objectives of this evolving group, invites artists from all the trade groups to unite so that the reputation of creative and decorative objects is maintained while respecting the technical qualities that make them useful in everyday life.
It is up to us to create, in this extraordinary area of the World Biosphere Reserve, events that will draw people from all over the world for the purpose of creating complementary and unique cultural manifestations solidifying the identity and sense of belonging of the community in its environment while opening up to tourism. This new participative economy will become a hotbed of ideas and projects to be exported and that could consolidate sustainable jobs, new types of jobs and prosperity by collective organisation and mobilisation.
