Charlevoix Citizen of the World
Human beings everywhere in the world find themselves at a crucial crossroads of their history. Presently we are witnessing disparities between and within nations, worsening of poverty, of the state of health, of the growth of illiteracy and of the continuous eroding of ecosystems on which our well-being depends. If we better integrate questions about environment and development, if we bring more attention to these questions, we could raise everyone’s living standards, better protect and manage ecosystems and insure a stronger and more prosperous future for all. No country will be able to do all this alone but the task is possible only if we all work together in a global partnership for sustainable development.
The City of Baie-Saint-Paul in Charlevoix was the first city in Quebec to adopt its Agenda 21. In short, to determine its own action program for the 21st Century to answer local questions relating to sustainable development.
Charlevoix International is happy to welcome and mobilise the region towards a common Agenda because we must build our future together and commit ourselves to the important choices facing those who live within the confines of a World Biosphere Reserve.
